Deborah Bird


Responsible for management and quality assurance at the main ArtyBird centre plus delivery of the Artist in Residence qualification


Deborah Bird is a practicing artist with B.A. Hons in Graphic Design and M.A in Fine Art. Over the years she has worked in a number of disciplines including photography, graphic design, fine art, interior design and decoration. Deborah has been involved with education for a number of years, acting as artist in residence, lecturing in further education and extensively as a senior consultant and subject advisor for City & Guilds. Many examples of her work can be seen throughout the website.

Rikke Digerud-Waring


Responsible for the delivery of Artist in Residence qualification.


Rikke Digerud-Waring is a practicing artist with a B.A. Hons in Fine Art and M.A Fine Art. She has worked in Primary Education for many years and recently in Further and Higher Education. In her own art practice, Rikke uses a variety of media including photography/video, plaster, latex, textiles, paper collage and drawing. Work is often investigative and includes some form of recording of time, memories and lost/found objects. Rikke has exhibited in Norway, London and The Midlands and helps to run workshops at local galleries. Rikke works as an artist in residence in variety of situations and has recently been awarded an Arts Council grant to complete a public sculpture commission.

Kate Horner


Responsible for the delivery of Feltmaking and Creative Computing qualifications.


Kate Horner is a practicing artist with a B.Sc. (Hons) Textile Design (Woven Structures) and a M.A. in Design Studies (Textiles). Kate has taught in Secondary School and Further Education for many years and is a thoughtful educationalist. Her artwork explores many forms of textiles, centered on felt making. Her sketchbooks are vital to the work she makes and these are extended and explored through the computer. Her themes are about herself and her relationship with people and places. This focuses on her family and friends, and their environmental and peace work. She has exhibited nationally.

Rosie Jackson


Responsible for the delivery of Embroidery, Machine Embroidery, Fashionwear and Mixed Media qualifications.


Rosie Jackson is a qualified tutor with a City and Guilds Diploma in Embroidery and an HND in Business Studies. She has many years experience in a variety of crafts and is a practicing textile and mixed media artist using the English landscape for most of her inspiration. Further studies have come from ‘Nostalgia’ and the memories of her childhood.
As well as being an artist Rosie has experience of the business side of textiles. She has successfully managed a fabric shop and has been self employed, running her own dressmaking and soft furnishing business for many years.

Peter Stanyer


Responsible for the delivery of Drawing and Painting qualifications.


Peter Stanyer graduated from the Royal College of Art with a master’s degree in Fine Art in 1982. Since leaving the College, he has taught at many different levels in Further and Higher Education. He spent 15 years teaching at the City Lit and Chelsea School of Art in London, and he now lives in Yorkshire on the Pennine Way where he is a practicing Landscape Artist. Over the last eight years, he has been successfully teaching City & Guilds courses in Painting and Drawing, and many of his students have won medals of excellence in these subjects. He has also written a number of books on drawing for beginners, which are published worldwide
