Braunstone Artists in Residence is a groundbreaking showcase of new art work and projects by 6 local emerging artists who met whilst studying towards a new City & Guilds qualification (7823 Artist in Residence).

This unique community based project was developed by Barbara Blatherwick of Creative Braunstone, has been delivered by Leicester based company ArtyBird, sponsored by Creative Braunstone and Braunstone Working and is aimed at artists wishing to pursue a career within the creative industries.

The exhibition aims to raise public awareness of exciting, creative artist lead projects currently being carried out in the local community of Braunstone area. These include;
Turning Point Women’s Centre.
Sunflowers Nursery
Queensmead Community Primary School
Caldecote Community Primary School.
Braunstone Community Primary School
Young Offenders support group
Families in Focus
Braunstone Creative Network

The exhibition promotes the importance and benefit of the role of the Artist within the community. It will also show how creative work and related activities can benefit the local community and beyond. Their work includes painting, drawing, textiles, photography, ceramics, sculpture, mosaic, land art and performance.

Curated by artists (and Artist in Residence tutors) - Deborah Bird and Rikke Digerud-Waring the exhibition is a great step forward for these artists who, having completed the Artist in Residence qualification, have the opportunity to showcase their work and reflect on their professional practice.

The exhibition has been made possible with support from Braunstone Community Association and is funded through A New Deal for Communities which is a national regeneration initiative.
